Metro station «Nagatinsky Zaton»

The logical basis for the design of the station of the Third Interchange Loop of the Moscow Metro was the conceptual connection with the place. Nagatinsky Zaton is a river bay, and the image used by the architects is natural and quite obvious – the inhabitants of the rivers of the Moscow region. In the course of work on the project, the ichthyofauna of the capital’s water bodies was studied and 12 species of fish that inhabit them were drawn with encyclopaedic precision. The images will be made in the form of mosaic panels from granite. In fact, the station will become a kind of museum dedicated to river inhabitants. The underground pavilion is laconic and made almost entirely of glass, but at the entrance passengers will start to immerse themselves in the aesthetics of the station – the ceiling of the pavilion is made in the form of giant scales of golden colour.
