Mr R’s house
The client’s main requirement was to preserve all the trees on a relatively small plot of 1800 square meters, where a house was to be built. Therefore, the foundation occupied only 300 square meters out of the total building area of 560 square meters. For the same reason, the house has a rather elaborate layout and is divided into two wings. The zoning is classic: the ground floor contains communal areas, while the second floor houses private spaces with access to the usable roof. The basement, which is 1.20 meters below ground level, is dedicated to utilities (electricity, gas, sewage) and technical equipment (water pumps, emergency diesel generator, and its tank). Deeper down, there is only a wine cellar.
The house has a reinforced concrete frame made of columns and slabs, with brick walls, one of which is sloped (the brickwork is done with a shift). The roof is monolithic and sloped, with a maximum pitch of 12º, and includes skylights for illuminating the stairwell and the master bedroom. Between the wings of the house, there is a usable section of the roof for picnics and sunbathing. The second floor features two balconies and a loggia, the latter of which is adjacent to the master study and is covered from precipitation by a glass canopy on a metal frame. The drainage pipes, made of thin stainless steel tubes, are raised above the roof level and tilted relative to the house’s volume to enhance the aesthetic effect.
